Fostering police parent partnership

September 29: Parents can play an important role in bringing down juvenile crime in the country. As such the Police is working towards fostering Police parent partnership.

Yesterday police officials led by the Chief of Police Colonel Kipchu Namgyel met with over four hundred parents from Changjiji at the Loselling lower secondary school.

The program focused on the role of parents in a rapidly changing society. Colonel Kipchu Namgyel said often parents are not able to spend quality time with their children and give guidance and support.

He said discotheques are one of the places where youth indulge in unhealthy activities such as substance abuse and gang fights. He said efforts and cooperation between parents and the police is important to prevent children from getting involved in unhealthy practices.

The chief of police, Colonel Kipchu Namgyel said building partnership with youth and their parents is crucial. Earlier a team of police officials led by the chief of police visited schools and training institutes in Thimphu.

They briefed the students on the need for better police youth partnership to deal with issues affecting the youth in the country. As a pilot project, the Royal Bhutan Police plans to conduct various activities for the youth in Thimphu during the winter vacation.

Under one such program, around 200 youth will work with the Royal Bhutan Police for a period of 40 days from 21st December 2008 to 30th January 2009. The programme will be carried out with financial support from SAVE the Children program in Thimphu.
