Forest fires in Paro controlled

February 14: The two forest fires in Shaba and Dotey in Paro have finally been brought under control. The forest fires started on Saturday.

About 300 people including RBP and RBA personnel, forest officials, people from all the gewogs, business community members, dzongkhag staff and health officials battled the fires for five day before they were brought under control yesterday.

The fire in Shaba started from an apple orchard in chongzhi. It was started accidentally by a nine year old boy who was burning debris in the orchard.

The second fire took place in Dotey gewog. It started from above the Shera Dango Lhakhang in Dotey.

The assistant Dzongkhag forest officer Phub Thinley said it is very likely that the fire was started deliberately. The extent of the damage is being investigated.
