Fire partially damages Ka-gye Lhakhang in Gasa Dzong

January 24: A fire in the Gasa Dzong has partially damaged the wooden structure of the Ka-gye Lhakhang. The main damage is on the Dzongkhag Engineering section. The fire started at around 7. 45pm. It took about four hours to bring the blaze under control. To fully extinguish the fire it took almost nine hours.

The fire is believed to have started from below the Dzongkhag Engineering section which is located behind the Ka-gye Lhakhang.

The other structures and lhakhangs of the dzong have not been touched by the fire. The Ka-gye Lhakhang has only partially been damaged.

Speaking to BBS over the telephone, Dzongda Karma Weezir said even though the Ka-gye Lhakhang has been affected by the fire, they have been able to remove all the important Nangtens.

He said while the cause of fire could not be ascertained, it is suspected to have started from an electric short circuit.
