Fighting for a Higher Secondary School

September 10: The people of Dujeygang are fighting tooth and nail for a Higher Secondary School. They say the decision of the Dzongkhag Yargay Tshogdu (DYT) to upgrade the Daga Middle Secondary School to a higher secondary School first has left them disappointed.

The DYT members cast votes to decide whether they should upgrade the Daga Middle Secondary School or the Dujeygang Middle Secondary School.

Dujeygang geog managed to secure only one third of the total number of votes.

The people of Dujeygang say there is no reason for the DYT Members to cast votes on the matter. They argue that it was already decided that the Dujeygang Middle Secondary School will be upgraded to a higher secondary school.

They also argue that the place was identified by the Education Ministry as the ideal place for a higher secondary school.

Last month, when the Dzongda visited the geog, people stood up one after another and said if Dagana gets a Higher Secondary School it should be in Dujeygang and not elsewhere in the Dzongkhag.

Dzongda Tashi Gyeltshen told the gathering that Dagana Dzongkhag requires two higher secondary schools considering the student population. He said Dujeygang will also get a Higher Secondary School but later.

The Dzongda said Dujeygang Middle Secondary School does not have reliable power supply and adequate classrooms and hostel facilities.

Residents said the diesel generator can provide enough power and there will be enough classrooms if class seven is phased out and the nearby community school is upgraded.

They said if the Daga Middle Secondary School is upgraded to a Higher Secondary, there is less or no chance of the Dujeygang Middle Secondary ever being upgraded.

They have also approached the Works and Human Settlement Minister Lyonpo Yeshey Zimba in their bid for a Higher Secondary School.
