Fierce winds damage four houses

March 7: Fierce winds damaged four houses under Goenshari gewog in Punakha.

The winds blew away the roof of three houses in Goenshari. Our reporter Sonam Tobgay says the timber support that was used to hold the roof have also been blown away by fierce winds. Of the three houses, one is a two-storied traditional house. The other two are single-storied traditional houses.

The wind also blew away the roof and cracked the wall of a single storied traditional house in Zhel-ngo-sa. The incident occurred at around 12:00 noon on February 28. It was immediately reported to the Gup and to the Dzongkhag Administration.

Shari Gup Tashi Tenzing said Dzongkhag and Insurance officials visited the village to assess the damage. Their report has been sent to head office for insurance claim. All four houses are insured with the RICB.

Strong winds also destroyed a large number of trees in the forest nearby.
