Father takes principal to court for slapping his son
October 01:The father of a class five student in the Tshompaling Primary School in Lhuntse is taking the school’s principal to court for slapping his son.
The 12-year-old student had to be taken to the hospital after he was slapped by the school’s principal.
According to the medical report, the boy’s left ear drum has been partially ruptured. His hearing has been partially impaired though he can hear according to the report.
The incident happened on September 5, after the boy and five other students were found making noise in the class.
The Dzongkhag Education Officer Kinley Gyeltshen admitted that the principal did slap the students.
However he said it may not have been his intention to hurt them.
Corporal punishment is banned in schools by the education ministry but it is still prevalent in most schools.
