(UPDATE) March 17: The Bhutan Power Corporation’s office in Phuentsholing says the explosion at Tshochungkha village under Sampheling gewog on Saturday has damaged a 400 KV double circuit transmission tower.
The tower is used to transmit power to Siliguri in India.
Sonam Wangdi, a senior BPC official, said one of the four legs of the transmission tower has been damaged in the explosion. He said a new transmission tower will have to be installed. He said it will cost about Nu. 1.5 million to re-install a 400 KV double circuit transmision tower.
The explosion occurred at around 4:45 AM on Saturday. Apart from the damage to the transmisson tower, there were no reports of damages to property. There were also no reports of casualties or injuries.
Police found two letters, one written in English and the other written in Lhotshamkha and a flag at the explosion site. A militant group, calling themselves the United Revolutionary Front of Bhutan (URFB), claimed responsibility for the blast.
The group also claimed responsibility for the four bomb blasts on January 20. |
