September 01: In Phuentsholing, another electricity transformer has been tampered with and the coils of copper wire inside stolen.
This is the second such incident to be reported in Phuntsholing this month.
The transformer has about 100 kilograms of copper wires.
Our reporter Tenzin Wangda says a kilogram of copper fetches about Nu. 350 in the market.
The incident took place on August 30 near the crematorium. The crematorium caretaker said at around 11pm the lights went out. He thought it was another power blackout but next morning, when he went to check, he found the transformer tampered with and the copper wires were missing.
Bhutan Power Corporation officials said the theft must have been carried out by a group of people who have knowledge about electrical wiring. |
