October 04: With elections drawing near, election officials are conducting awareness workshops on postal ballot.
On Tuesday, they conducted a training for students and teachers of Sherubling higher and Taktse middle secondary schools and RBP personnel in Trongsa on the procedures of voting using the postal ballot.
Teachers and students are some of the people who are allowed to vote by post.
The postal ballot application forms can be obtained from the nearest office of the Election commission. It can also be downloaded for the election commission’s website www.election-bhutan.org.bt
The form must reach the returning officer of your constituency at least 15 days before the day of election.
The awareness work is expected to minimize mistakes in filling the postal ballot papers.
During the mock election, the majority of the postal ballots had to be considered invalid because of mistakes made by applicants while filing the forms.
The election officials also briefed the teachers and students on the risks involved in voting through post.
