Eight year old boy recovering at national hospital from head injury

October 28: The Education Ministry has banned corporal punishments in schools but in reality it still exists. In a recent incident an eight year old boy from Wuling Community Primary School in Samdrup Jongkhar suffered head injury allegedly at the hands of his teacher.

An eight year old Rinzin Dorji, a student of Wuling Community Primary School in Samdrupjongkhar. He was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit of the National Hospital in semi conscious state more than a week ago.

According to health officials he is now recovering. CT scan at the hospital revealed minor fracture and swelling at the left side of his head.

Rinzin Dorji’s father told BBS that the injury was caused after the boy was beaten by a teacher in the school.

However according reports in the Kuensel say the school authorities has denied the allegation. They said the boy was injured after falling from a tree.

The father of the child said he did not get time to forward the case to the authorities as he had to leave immediately with the injured child to the hospital.
