March 6: The European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) to Bhutan gave a press conference on Tuesday to introduce the mission.
The mission is here to observe the National Assembly elections.
The head of the mission and Chief Observer, Mr. Javier Pomes said the mission will observe all aspects of the election process. They will also assess the news coverage by Bhutanese media.
Mr. Javier Pomes said the observation work is an important component for the European Unions Policy of promoting democratization through the world.
Of the 15 observers, six electoral experts will be based in Thimphu and nine long term observers will be deployed in teams throughout the country.
Following the election on March 24, the Chief Observer will issue a preliminary statement assessment of the process. Later, a more comprehensive final report will be issued including recommendations to improve the electoral process.
