October 05: Unlike in other countries, political parties in Bhutan will not be allowed to put up posters and slogans and other campaign material everywhere and anywhere.
For aesthetic as well as cultural reasons, the Election Commission is going to identify places where political parties can display posters, stickers, notifications and pamphlets in every polling booth. Places will also be identified in gewog centers, towns, highways and other places.
The campaign materials will also be approved and sealed by the election commission.
The Chief Election Commissioner Dasho Kunzang Wangdi said, identifying places for displaying campaign materials will ensure that voters will be able to get all the information in one place.
It will also ensure uniformity in campaign material displayed by different parties.
Meanwhile the Election Commission is investigating reports that party workers are displaying logos or other campaign material on the doors of houses, cars and some public places.
With the help of police, Election officials will monitor and ensure that the activities are in line with Election Advertising Rules and Regulations. They will also ensure that party workers do not use obnoxious materials.
The Chief Election Commissioner said to ensure fair play and that parties with bigger campaign funding do not enjoy undue advantage over other parties, campaign funds will be provided by the Election Commission.
