ECB investigating PDP's allegation against DPT

February 29: The Election Commission says investigation is being carried out on the recent allegations made by the People’s Democratic Party accusing the Druk Phuensum Tshogpa president and party workers of making defamatory statements during campaign meetings in Trongsa and Zhemgang.

The media including the BBS covered the allegations made by the PDP. The DPT in a news release said it is not aware of any defamatory statements made by the party president.

Through a press release from the Election Commission issued yesterday, BBS has learnt that the Election Commission received a complaint by phone on the February 20 and a written compliant on February 21 from the Druk Phuensum Tshogpa alleging PDP coordinators in Nangkor and Shinkhar gewogs under Zhemgang dzongkhag.

In the complaint the DPT alleged Phuntsho Dhendup and Younten of the PDP for disrupting the public meeting by misinterpretation of the words spoken by the DPT president, stalking and following the DPT from Buli to Nimzhong to Tingtibi and noting of the registration numbers of the vehicles of the DPT and its supporters.

The release from the Election Commission adds that the People’s Democratic Party as directed by the Commission furnished their side of the story and this report was received on February 26 counter alleging the DPT president of making defamatory statement against the PDP and candidates during his campaign tours in Drakteng and Langthel in Trongsa and Buli and Nimshong villages in Zhemgang Dzongkhag.

According to the release, the Election Commission says it deeply regrets to learn from the media that the party had distributed widely their report meant for submission to the Election Commission to all members of media.

The Election Commission says that a proper investigation is being carried out and the guilty shall be penalized under the laws.
