ECB comes up with a list of dos and don’ts on familiarization visits

October 06: The Election Commission has also come up with a list of what the political parties and party workers can and cannot do while on familiarization visits.

They will have to make a courtesy call on the Dzongda and present a letter of introduction and visit schedule. The dzongda will inform the Gups. Political parties and candidates will call on the Gup and other Midhey Gothrips when in the gewog on familiarization visit.

Political parties and candidates can make expenses related to hosting meals and payment of TA and DA for registered members and party workers. They must however maintain proper records and accounts.

Political parties, candidates, or their supporters will not be allowed to hamper political competitors from undertaking familiarization activities.

They will not indulge in activity which may create ill-will, difference or cause tension between the people.

They shall avoid defamatory or derogatory attacks on rival parties or individuals.

They will not offer gifts of any kind or make promises of gifts or favors.

They will not exercise undue influence, intimidate or threaten voters.

They will also not appeal to any group of persons to attend meetings or refrain from attending political meetings by other parties.

They will not force, coerce, or threaten people to fill registration forms or commit them to vote for their party.
