November 3: The dzongkhag coordinators of the PDP’s women and youth department met in the capital to discuss the role of Bhutanese women in the democratic process and issues and problems relating to women.
The participants were briefed on the democratization process, rights and responsibilities of women and the role they can play at the grassroots level.
The director of PDP’s women and youth department, Lilly Wangchuk, presented to the plans and polices of the party relating to women.
She said the women and youth department was started to provide a platform for the women to participate in the democratic process and to provide a forum within the party for the women.
She said, once they go back to their respective Dzongkhags they will act as a bridge between the people in the rural areas and the women and youth department of the party.
The women coordinators also discussed the issues and problems relating to women in rural areas and presented them at the meeting. About 30 women coordinators from 20 dzongkhags took part in the meeting.
