October 28:The Wangdue district court has sentenced the district education officer, the assistant district education officer and the office assistant in the district education office to one year to one year three months in prison.

They have been found guilty of forging TA/ DA bills.

The DEO received one year three months prison sentence, the ADEO, one year one month, and the office assistant, one year.

According to the court verdict, the district education office had about one hundred and sixty thousand Ngultrums for conducting workshops.

The money could not be used during that given financial period.

To prevent the funds from lapsing, the DEO consulted the joint director who instructed him to withdraw the money after completing the formalities and conduct the workshops at a later date.

The DEO, ADEO, and the office assistant forged TA/DA forms and fake bills and withdrew the money.

The court verdict says though the defendants forged the TA/DA forms and bills not for personal gains but for administrative convenience, the end does not justify the means.

All three can pay fines in lieu of the prison sentence.
