Dungkar wins Yangphel archery tournament

September 03: The Yangphel archery tournament has been won by Dungkar. Watched by thousands of spectators, Dungkar defeated Gyelyong Gaki and Kathayana in the final match yesterday.

Her Royal Highness Ashi Pema Choden Wangchuck was the chief guest. Also present were senior government officials. It was a closely contested match but before the day came to an end, Dunakar emerged as the clear winner.

The winning team members received a 29” TV with a DVD player. Kathayana came second. They got a digital camera each. The members of the third team, Gyelyong Gaki, received a VCD player each. The prizes were awarded by Ashi Sonam Ongmo.

Kinley Tshering from MMa-row was declared the best archer of the tournament. He got Nu. 40,000.

Tshering Gyeltshen from Gyelyong Gaki was the man of the match. He took home a TV set as prize.

Namgay Wangchuck from the veterans won the prize for the highest Karay in a single day.

The prize for the highest karey on the bull’s eye went to Pem Tshering.

This year a prize for regular spectators has also been introduced. The prize went to six elderly archery enthusiasts. They received Nu. 1,000 each.

The tournament lasted more than more than a month and half. Come rain or sunshine, the six spectators turned out every day without fail for the entire duration of the tournament to witness the games.
