June 7: The Druk Wangyal Lhakhang at Dochula was consecrated yesterday by His Holiness Gyalsay Trulku.

His Majesty the King, His Majesty the fourth Druk Gyalpo, Their Majesties the Queens, Their Royal Highnesses the Princes and Princesses, other royal family members, the Prime Minister, Cabinet Ministers and senior government officials attended the consecration ceremony.

With funds from Her Majesty the Queen Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, the construction of the Lhakhang began in March 2004. The Druk Wangyal Lhakhang was constructed as a tribute to His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo for his selfless service and visionary leadership. It is also an expression of gratitude for resolving the militant problem which further strengthened the security and sovereignty of the kingdom.

At the consecration ceremony today, His Holiness Gyalsay Trulku offered Tashi Ze-gye and Kusung Thugten Mendral to His Majesty the King and His Majesty the fourth Druk Gyalpo.

On Thursday, His Holiness the Je Khenpo Trulku Jigme Choeda presided over the Dragmar Sungchoey. His Holiness also offered Tashi Zey Gyed and Kusung Thugten Mendral to Her Majesty the Queen Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck.

His Holiness then gave Dhar to the Jinzop, Troezop, Lharip, Shingzop and the Dozop Lopens. They also received soelras from Her Majesty Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck.

Later in the afternoon, His Holiness Gyalsay Trulku performed Tagoen or purification ceremony. Four venerable Lopens performed Jinsey in the area opposite the 108 Druk Wangyel Chortens over the two day Rabney ceremony.

The Tensung Lapoen Dasho Zoepoen Wangchuk said with the completion of the Druk Wangyal Lhakhang, the kingdom has gained another sacred and important national treasure. He said the generous and selfless contribution of Her Majesty the Queen Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck towards the construction of the Druk Wangyal Lhakhang and the 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens at Dochula will be cherished by the people of Bhutan for generations to come.
