December 3: Druk Air will resume flights to and from Bangkok from today, the 3rd of December. The relief flights will be using the Utapao military airfield till December 5.
Simultaneously, Druk Air Officials are reviewing the situation at the Suvarnabhumi airport.
Druk Air says, if Suvarnabhumi remains closed, the flights to Bangkok will fly to Utapao but the frequency will be reduced to four times a week.
Meanwhile, 87 passengers who were stranded at Bangkok for days due to the closure of the Suvarnabhumi airport also arrived home yesterday.
They arrived on board flight KB 121 which was also stranded at the Suvarnabhumi airport for several days.
Druk Air’s flight KB 121 landed at the Paro Airport at around 11 am yesterday morning. It was a relief for the passengers who were stranded for several days at the Suvarnabhumi airport in Bangkok. The flight was supposed to land in Paro on Monday, December 1, but its departure from the Utapao military airfield in Bangkok was delayed due to passenger and traffic congestion and it had to make a night halt in Kolkatta.
Passengers said the Utapao airfield was cramped with passengers trying to get out of Thailand. Due to the lack of infrastructure, airlines had set up make shift counters outside the terminal building. The travelers were weary. Many had run out of cash and patience.
Thai authorities at the Utapao airfield did their best to assist the travelers but there were simply too many stranded passengers. Outside the terminal building, a rock band entertained the crowd to calm the frayed tempers.
There were also free international call centers, first aid and tourist police to assist the travelers. Volunteers provided free food and water.
Accommodation and meals were also arranged for the stranded passengers by the tourism authority of Thailand.
