Do's and Dont's during campaign

February 16: Election Commission says party candidates are not allowed to use derogatory languages and inflammatory remarks about their political opponents or any other individual during the campaign.

Speaking to BBS, Election Commissioner Chogyal Dago Rigdzin said the candidates are not allowed to obstruct people from attending campaign meetings.

To ensure a level playing field, candidates are also not allowed to wear their kabney at campaign meetings. No individual or parties except the two registered parties and representatives appointed by them are allowed to campaign on behalf of anybody unless authorized.

He said the two parties and their candidates are expected to conduct themselves in accordance with the election code of conduct. They must stop campaigning 48 hours or two days before the Poll Day. This period, he said, is for the voters who would have by then heard the speeches and attended the meetings to reflect and decide who they should vote for.
