May 30: The demarcation of plots for the new town in Gelephu has been completed amidst accusations and counter accusations.
Our reporter Sonam Rinchen says that the Municipal officials will be allotting the plots soon.
Ever since the town planning began in Gelephu in 2004, it has been beset problems. Municipal officials complained that they are not getting the cooperation of landowners.
Chophel, the official in charge of the municipality said one of the major drawbacks in implementing the town planning was the lack of cooperation from the public. He said even now after the plots have been demarcated, some of the land owners have refused to accept the land pooling.
On their part, land owners say the land pooling was not fair ad accuse the committee of favoring those in positions of power and influence.
They said the previous town plan has been changed to the benefit senior officials delaying the planning and plan implementation.
Municipal officials have however denied this.
They said the town plan and the structure have not been changed. They said they did carry out some minor re-planning only in some of the areas. |
