August 18: The construction of the 114 Megawatt Dagachhu Hydropower Project in Dagana is set to begin in October this year. The 200 million dollar project was scheduled to start in January this year.
The Dagachhu Hydropower Project was delayed by ten months. The delay was caused by the disqualification of the Maytas Infra. The parent company of Maytas Infra, Satyam, was involved in a corrupt deal in India.
The contract has now been awarded to Hindustan Construction Company, the second lowest bidder.
Meanwhile, the construction of a 19 kilometre access road to the dam site and power house has been completed.
Currently, works are being carried out to repair the damage caused by the flood in May this year. The flood has washed away parts of the road near the dam and damaged the bridge to the power house.
The 62 kilometre Sunkosh-Chinathang road widening work is also in full swing. The project is expected to be complete by June 2012.
