April 6:
The President of Druk Phuensum Tshogpa Jigmi Y. Thinley will serve as the Prime Minister.

This was endorsed yesterday in the capital at the first executive committee meeting of Druk Phuensum Tshogpa after the National Assembly elections.

Speaking at the meeting, the Prime Minister elect Jigmi Y. Thinley said the results of the National Assembly election in which DPT won 45 of the 47 seats in the National Assembly was incredible. “The people of Bhutan have placed immense faith and confidence in our party. Every elected member must serve the King, country, and the people with utmost loyalty and dedication,” he said.

Jigmi Y. Thinley attributed the party’s overwhelming win to the hard work of party supporters. He congratulated and expressed his gratitude to the Election Commission for conducting the election successfully and in a free and fair manner. He thanked the Anti-Corruption Commission for its support in ensuring free and fair elections.

On behalf of all the elected members, he expressed his gratitude to His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo and His Majesty the King and vowed to work towards a vibrant, unique and exemplary democracy and lay a firm foundation for a unique democratic culture.

“We will work to lay a firm foundation for unique democratic culture. In many democracies around the world politics is not considered a good profession and politicians are associated with bad things. Through good conduct we will try to change the bad image of politics and politicians and will strive to be an example of good politicians. We will ensure that politicians are respected and trusted,” said the DPT President.
