September 23: The Dzongkha Development Commission is publishing 19 books this year. The books are being published to celebrate the centenary of the monarchy, establishment of constitutional democracy and coronation of His Majesty the King.
The publications include a simplified Dzongkha grammar book divided into three parts, dictionary, Dzongkha antonyms and synonyms and Dzongkha spelling guide books.
The officiating secretary of DDC, Pema Wangdi, said the commission is publishing the books to make the national language Dzongkha user friendly as per the command of His Majesty the King in 2007.
He said copies of the books will be distributed among Dzongkha teachers across the country before they are published to incorporate their suggestions and feedbacks. The books will then be supplied to schools across the country.
According to Dasho Sangay Dorji, a dzongkha expert with the Dzongkha Development Commission, the commission will publish chronicle books on Centenary and coronation celebrations. He said the books will serve as future reference on how the celebrations were conducted.
The Commission hopes to publish the books within this year and supply them to schools at the beginning of the next academic session.
