Customs seize liquor worth over Nu. 175,000

September 17: Phuentsholing customs have seized liquor worth over Nu. 175,000 from a man in Pasakha. The seizure was made following complaints from liquor vendors and other informants on Sunday morning.

The man was the liquor dealer but his license expired on June 30. He was supposed to hand over the remaining stock at the wholesale rate to the new dealer on July 1 but did not do so.

Following complaints, customs officials checked the former dealer’s shop and found 171 cases of different brands. The liquor was found hidden in the basement of his house which was locked.

Custom officials told our reporter that the man had not removed the dealer’s signboard and continued to sell liquor to the public in black.

He has been fined Nu. 420,000 as penalty.
