January 25: Customs officials in Phuentsholing have seized tobacco products worth over Nu. 57,000 and 10 cartons of eggs worth Nu. 8000 in two different incidents yesterday.

In the first incident, a driver of a DCM truck was caught near the main gate carrying cigarettes worth Nu. 34,000. The cigarette cartons were hidden under a pile of straw.

Customs officials seized a consignment of tobacco products from the same DCM truck last year.

The second incident occurred near the bridge going to the Norgay cinema hall.

Customs officials seized tobacco products worth over Nu. 22,000 and 10 cartons of eggs worth Nu. 8000 from a truck.

The smuggled goods were hidden under the driver’s seat and in the cabin of the truck.

Custom officials have now seized tobacco products worth over Nu.1.3 million since last year.
