Coronation park grapples with garbage problem

October 14:
It’s been only two weeks since the coronation park in Changlimithang was inaugurated but it is already beginning to grapple with the garbage problem.

Over the past two weeks since its inauguration, about 9,000 people visited the park. They bring along with them snacks and food littering the area everyday.

In the morning hours, the garbage bins are overloaded with plastics and papers thrown indiscriminately by visitors from the previous day.

The people deployed at the park said many visitors don’t bother to throw the rubbish in the bins. Instead they throw plastics, bottles, and wrappers everywhere carelessly.

The in-charge of the park said he and his staff have been requesting the people to use the garbage disposal bins but to no avail.

Some of the visitors said part of the problem is to be blamed on the workers themselves who sell packaged chips and juices inside the park. The in-charge however said they have stopped selling anything a few days ago.

More than 9000 visitors, mostly children visited the park. The park has facilities like basket ball court, swings and sea-saws.

Unless the Bhutanese start throwing waste in the bin it’s going to be a challenge for the concerned authorities in keeping the park clean.
