June 2: A five day Construction Expo 2010 is underway in the capital. With the theme taking construction to new heights, about 81companies from four countries are taking part in the Expo. Officials from the Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) say such events will improve the trade in the construction industry.
About 115 stalls from Bhutan, India, Thailand and other places, some as far as Kenya, are taking part in the expo.
Products range from hardware items to different construction materials and other heavy earth moving machineries.
All products on display are certified by the Office of the Standard and Quality control Authority.
“It is organized to bring in lots of experienced constructions and suppliers and also to create a platform where the Bhutanese contractors could interact and also we are trying to source lots of equipments and manufacturers from outside. It is also to improve the trade in construction in Bhutan,” said Phub Tshering, Secretary General of BBCI.

For the participants, such platforms provide an opportunity for them to showcase their products in the booming construction industry in the country.
The Economic Affairs Secretary, Dasho Sonam Tshering, also released a construction directory which contains identified quality construction materials.
The Expo is organized by BCCI with the support from Ministry of Work ands Human Settlement.
The Expo will go on till Sunday. |
