Tshewang Ngedup- The condom man

November 24: People know about superman, batman and spiderman but what about the condom man. There is one in the capital. The condom man is making superman efforts to promote health messages on HIV/AIDS especially among the most vulnerable and trying to reach the unreached.

Tshewang Ngedup is a man on the move. For more than three weeks, he has been driving around in his van talking about HIV/AIDS, importance of practicing safe sex and distributing condoms and leaflets.

On the evening of November 22, we caught up with him as he was talking to mechanics in the Changzamtog workshop area. Talking to BBS he said he is targeting people who do not have access to information about HIV/ AIDS because of the nature of their work.

During the day, Tshewang Ngedup works with the Royal Institute of Health Sciences. It is after office hours that he goes around educating the public on HIV/AIDS

. He came up with the idea a few months ago and approached the Health Ministry which is supporting him by providing fuel money and supplying him with condoms and the leaflets with health messages.

Apart from the capital, he has also been to Paro and Phuentsholing. He hopes to go to other Dzongkhags in future.
