Classroom congestion- Loseyling Secondary School, Thimphu

August 30:
Loseyling Lower Secondary School is one of the schools in Thimphu faced with the problem of classroom congestion.

Loseyling Lower Secondary School in Thimphu has over 900 students and 34 teachers. Classroom congestion is a major problem here.

The problem is more acute in the pre- primary classes. The pre- primary classes and class one are located near the river, below the main school premises.

The school has 101 pre primary students. They are put into two sections. Teachers said with 50 students in a class, it is difficult for them to handle.

To address the problem, two teachers manage a class at a time. While one teaches, the other teacher makes sure that students do not misbehave.

The classrooms are in poor condition. There are also no proper toilets, drinking water supply and electricity.

To prevent children from going to the riverside, parents of the children have put up a fence. But the teachers said fences are sometimes damaged by youth who come there to play football and basketball.

The School's Principal Sonam Phuntsho said the school's immediate plan is to reduce the number of sections for classes seven and eight.

This will enable them to shift the pre primary and class one students to the main school premises.

The school was established in 2005.
