Class XII results declared

January 29, 2009: The class XII, Bhutan Higher Secondary Education Certificate, results have been declared.

The results are available on the education ministry website www.education.gov.bt and DrukNet www.druknet.bt.

Jigme Phuntsho, a commerce student from Jakar Higher Secondary School, came first with 89.25%. Close on his heels, Sweta Giri, a science student from Yanchenphug Higher Secondary School, scored 89% to come second. The third position went to Sonam Lhamo, a commerce student from Kelki Higher Secondary School, with a score of 88.75%.

The results were declared at a pres conference by the secretary of examinations Phub Rinchen this morning.

5,510 students from 22 government schools and seven private schools appeared for the examination. Of that 86.53% have passed. That is an improvement of around 2% from the previous year. In 2007 the pass percentage was 84.80%.

Subject wise, students did well in English, Dzongkha, Geography, and science with a pass percentage of above 90%. In comparison, only 57% managed to pass in economics.

The class XII results for the Institute of Language and Cultural Studies were also declared today. 251 candidates appeared for the examination. Of that 219 passed the exam.
