September 2: People of Chuzergang geog in Sarpang are facing drinking water shortage. The geog has over 500 households. Of that only a few chiwogs have access to safe drinking water facilities.
The existing water source frequently gets disrupted and blocked during the monsoon.
Some of the residents said they have to depend on seasonal spring water and ponds. Our reporter says some even fetch water from the Mao River.
Chuzergang Gup Sangay Tshering says shortage of drinking water has been a problem since 2000.
He said the geog has submitted several proposals to the Dzongkhag.
He said concerned officials also visited the geog and conducted detailed study on the sustainability of water source and cleanliness.
However the officials told BBS that works cannot be carried out since the water source was found to be non-perennial.
