Chorten robbed in Dagana

January 28: A Namgay Khangza Chorten has been robbed in Trashigang Village under Tseza Geog in Dagana on the night of January 25.

It is one of the oldest chortens in the Dzongkhag and there are no records about the relics in the chorten. Our reporter Sonam Ugyen says what has been stolen cannot be ascertained.

With the recent robbery, all the three chortens in the area have now been robbed of their sacred relics.

The first chorten was robbed on November 11 in 2007. The second chorten was robbed about a month later.

All three chortens are located near the Choecho Pangkha Lhakhang in Tashigang Village.

Dagana Dzongkhag has about 77 chortens of which 15 have been robbed between 2006 and 2009. So far only one person has been caught for chorten vandalism. Dagana Police are investigating the case.

In another incident, an attempt was made to rob a Jangchub Chorten in Betiny village under Tsirang Dzongkhag of January 17.
