May 5: The Thimphu City Corporation has asked the 34 workshops in Changzamtok to move to the new workshop at Olarongchu by April 30. But there doesn’t seem to be any sign of shifting.
The deadline has now expired but the workshops in Changzamtok have remained where they are.
Workshop owners say they cannot shift because the new workshops at Olarongchu are not ready.
Speaking to BBS, some of the workshop owners said infrastructures like roads and drainage are not complete.
They say it is not possible to work without roads and drainage.
Workshop owners say the treatment plant which would be used to dispose off effluents like grease, oil and detergents in an environmentally friendly manner is also not ready.
The Deputy Minister of National Environment Commission (NEC) Dasho Nado Rinchen said a temporary measure would be put in place after discussing the issue with workshop owners who move to Olarongchu.
The Executive Secretary of Thimphu City Corporation Phuntsho Gyeltshen said except for a few workshops, all the workshops are ready along with the electricity supply, water, and telephone facilities.
He said the road is also ready though it has not been black topped. He said though the drainage system is not ready, it would be ready shortly. |
