Center for Population and Development Studies inaugurated at Sherubtse College

The center for Population and Development Studies at Sherubtse College in Kanglung was formally inaugurated by the Director of the College of Science and Technology and the Director of Sherubtse College this morning. The establishment of the center is dedicated to the centenary celebrations in the country.

The new center for Population and Development Studies was established at the Sherubtse College in response to the changing role of tertiary education in the country.

The center expects both teachers and students to do research and publication that will benefit the whole nation. It will also become the core of research activities for all the colleges affiliated to the Royal University of Bhutan on issues of population and development.

The Director of College of Science and Technology said establishment of such center is of paramount importance to develop a culture of research and to make the country a knowledge based society.

Apart from research, the center also plans to conduct trainings, seminars, workshops and conferences to disseminate research results and publication of reports for timely policy and planning interventions.

Tenzin Wangchuk, a lecturer of Environmental Studies said the center will not only involve academics and researchers in the field of population and development alone, but in areas of social sciences as well.

The Center for Population and Development Studies was established with support from the UNFPA.
