Centennial graduates take part in clean up campaign
October 20: The centennial graduates took part in a massive clean up campaign in the capital city to raise awareness among the residents yesterday.
The campaign is part of the National Graduate’s Orientation Programme.
Despite the heat, the graduates walked all the way from YDF complex to Motithang and Chubachu and the main town carrying banners urging the residents to keep their city clean and green.
Along the way they picked up garbage and sang slogans highlighting the importance of a clean environment on our health.
They spoke about the advantages of reducing, re-using and recycling waste and the penalties for non compliance with the waste management rules.
The campaign was organized to educate people on segregating waste at the source. It is also aimed at keeping the city clean in preparation for the centenary and coronation celebrations.
Speaking to BBS some of the graduates said the awareness campaign was successful.
Some of them said the residents are aware but they need to be reminded on waste management.
