CHPC wins Druk Wangyel Archery tournament

October 15: Chukha Hydropower Corporation has won this year’s Druk Wangyal Archery tournament. They defeated Bhutan Telecom the defending champion in two straight games in the final match over the weekend.

It was a closely contested match with sharpshooters from both teams matching karey for karey.

Bhutan Telecom conceded the first match which lasted almost the entire day at 24 points, only one point short of completing the game. In the second match too, they went neck to neck losing at 22 points.

Prizes for the tournament were awarded by the President of the Bhutan Archery Federation Lyonpo Kinzang Dorji. CHPC walked away with Nu. 52,500. The runners up got Nu. 30,000.

Dophu of Chang Gewog team won the best archer prize of Nu. 10,000.

The prize for the highest karey on the bull’s eye went to Namgay of Chang Gewog team B.

CHPC’s Jimba was declared the man of the match. He also won the prize for the highest Dhobje.

Nineteen teams from Paro, Wangdi, Punakha, Phuntsoling and Thimphu took part in the tournament. The tournament is played on traditional bows and arrows.

According to Phuntsho Wangdi a Bhutan Archery Federation official, it draws more spectators than the tournaments played on imported bows and arrows.

The prizes were sponsored by the Chukha Hydropower Corporation.
