October 30: With the Coronation celebrations just a few days away, tailors in Thimphu are very busy. Despite the overtime they are working, they still turn back some of the customers.
If you visit any tailor shops in Thimphu these days, it is almost definite that you will be turned down. This is because they already have many ghos, kiras, wongus and tegos stacked up on their shelves to be stitched.
Most of the tailors BBS spoke to said that they receive at least 10 gho pieces in a day to be stitched. Normally they just get half that number. Because of lack of time, they have to send back some of the customers.
They said they are working over time to meet the demand. Nima is a tailor in Thimphu. He said people are bringing special gho pieces to be stitched just like during the Domche and tshechu festivals.
Another tailor Karma Dorji said people are even willing to pay extra to get their ghos and kiras stitched on time for the Coronation celebrations.
Meanwhile the Gagyel Lhendup weaving centre in Changzamtog is also doing a brisk business. The proprietor Kezang Lhendup said he has not received any order to weave especially for the coronation celebrations.
However, knowing that there will be a huge demand he had kept a number of ghos and kiras ready so that people can come and buy them anytime.
