February 12: Broadband users in the kingdom heaved a sigh of relief with Bhutan Telecom announcing the restoration of high speed internet service.
Bhutan Telecom was due to launch its broadband service on the February 1 but the undersea cable cut in the Mediterranean Sea drastically affected Internet speed and service not only in Bhutan but in several countries including India.
The Bhutan Telecom website says that the submarine cable cut, due to which Bhutan Telecom had to postpone the broadband Internet Service and which was also the cause of slow internet, is restored.
In early January, Bhutan Telecom announced the commissioning of the kingdom’s first ever international access using optical fiber cable. The International Fiber link extends from Phuentsholing to London via Mumbai.
While the undersea cable cut affected users like Druk Air and BPOs in the kingdom, internet users also had to bear with the slow web browsing. |
