Bombs explode in Samtse and Phuentsholing

June 6: Two bomb blasts took place early yesterday morning. The first blast went off at 12.45 am on the road near Nainital Primary School under Samtse dzongkhag.

The Royal Bhutan Army from Nainital Outpost who went to inspect the blast has apprehended Chandra Raj Rai from a nearby house. Chandra Raj Rai had suffered serious injuries while handling the explosive device.

According to a news release from the Royal Bhutan Police, the suspect is an active member of the Communist Party of Bhutan based in Nepal.

The Samtse police investigation team has also recovered leaflets and banners of the Communist Party of Bhutan from Chandra Raj Rai. He told Samtse police that he was sent by the Communist Party of Bhutan from Nepal to carry out bomb blasts in Nainital village under Samtse dzongkhag.

The second blast went off at 2:15 am near the Damchen Petroleum depot at Kharbandi under Phuentsholing dungkhag in Chukha dzongkhag.

The police investigation team came across a dead body about 10 meters from the blast site and also recovered leaflets of the Communist Party of Bhutan. The deceased was killed by the bomb which went off while he was activating the explosive device.

The deceased was later identified as Indra Bahadur Ghalley of Katarey village under Ghumaoney geog who had left the country last year to join the Communist Party of Bhutan.

The news release from the Royal Bhutan Police says Chandra Raj Rai and Indra Bahadur Ghalley were involved in instigating and recruiting the people of Ghumaoney geog under Samtse dzongkhag to join the Communist Party of Bhutan. They had also given training to some people of Ghumaoney in the making and use of improvised explosive devices.
