Biography of Desi Jigme Namgyel launched

December 11: His Majesty the King also graced the launch of the biography of Desi Jigme Namgyel and met with thousands of people who had come from Trongsa as well as Bumthang and Zhemgang.

Following the inauguration of the Trongsa Ta Dzong museum, His Majesty the King was led to the Trongsa Choetse Dzong in chipdrel procession. Inside the Dzong, His Majesty visited the goenkhangs and nekhangs. His Majesty the King was then offered ku sung thukten mendrey at the Second King’s Zimchung by Trongsa Dzongkhag officials and the monks of the Trongsa Rabdey.

At the Zimchung, His Majesty graced the release of two books – the “biography of Desi Jigme Namgyel and “Chhag Dzog Usum - teachings by Lama Jangchhub Tsondu” published by the Center for Bhutan Studies (CBS) and the National Library.

According to the Director of the CBS, Dasho Karma Ura, Lama Jangchhu Tsondu was the root guru or the dharma teacher of Desi Jigme Namgyel. He passed away in 1856 long before Desi Jigme Namgyel established himself as the most powerful Penlop in the country.

Following the events in the Dzong, His Majesty the King met with the people at Chhurithang, outside the Dzong. People from all geogs of Trongsa and also Bumthang and Zhemgang had come to offer thridar and their prayers. His Majesty met with the people personally and interacted with them.

Their Royal Highnesses also granted soelras. The people and students of Trongsa presented a cultural programme. A tokha was also served to the gathering. The day ended with Tashi Labey.
