Bhutanese archers compete at the ranking match, Beijing Olympics

The world's top archers battled it out on Saturday at the Beijing Olympic Green Archery Field. Bhutan’s Dorji Dema and Tashi Peljor are taking part in the individual categories.


The preliminary round of the Olympic archery competition began on Saturday with all 128 archers in contention.

Bhutan’s Dorji Dema is in the 61st place with a score of 567. Tashi Peljor is in the 54th place with a score of 632.

The ranking round consists of 72 arrows shot in 12 ends of six arrows at a distance of 70 meters on a 122cm target face. A perfect score is 720.

From the scores shot in the ranking round, archers have been ranked from one to 64. The 64 ranked archers will enter the elimination round, where No 1 is matched against No 64, No 2 against No 63, and so on. The Women's Team elimination rounds begun yesterday.

This would mean that Bhutan’s Dorji Dema will play against Georgia’s Khatuna Narima- Nizay, ranked 4th tomorrow. The competition between Dorji Dema and Narima- Nizay is scheduled at 3:30 pm local time.

Meanwhile Tashi Peljor is slated to play against Chinese Taipei’s Cheng Pang Wang, ranked 11th.

While the women’s gold medal match will be played on the August 14, the final of the men’s gold medal match will be on the August 15.

The competition consisting of four events, including men's and women's individual and team categories will culminate on August 15.
