September 09: Bhutan will hold a Children and Youth Festival in November. The three day festival, the first such event, will be held at the capital’s square from th to November 10 to November 12.
It aims to promote children’s participation in politics. The Children and Youth Festival is aimed at promoting children’s participation in democracy. It will provide an opportunity to children to express their views and opinions on the political changes taking place in the country.
On Friday officials from the National Commission for Women and Children, the Tarayana Foundation, Save the Children, UNICEF, Department of Youth and Sports, and media representatives met to finalize the agenda for the three day event.
The festival will include exhibitions, games, cultural shows, debates, quiz competition and talent hunt.
The Executive Director of the National Commission for Women and Children, Dr. Rinchen Chophel said the event is being organized recognizing the importance of role of youth in shaping the democracy and future of Bhutan.
Youth wings of the two political parties will also be invited to answer political queries from the youth. It is also meant to help children explore their talents and potentials and brief them on career opportunities.
About 20,000 children from all over the country are expected to take part in the festival. The even will be held annually.
