September 09: Bhutan and Thailand held a meeting to enhance collaboration in research and development in information technology in the capital yesterday.
The Thai delegation was led by the Minister for Science and Technology. The Bhutanese delegation was led by the Information and Communication Minister.
Earlier this month, Bhutanese and Thai officials agreed to establish a working committee to develop collaboration action plans.
Speaking to BBS the Thai Minister of Science and Technology, Professor Dr. Yongyuth Yuthvong said ICT is very important for the development of the political system.
Earlier this year, the two countries signed a MOU to collaborate in research and development in information technology.
They will also work together to strengthen e-governances and e-education to enable people from both the countries to learn from each other.
The Information and Communications Minister Lyonpo Leki Dorji said Bhutan has a lot to learn from Thailand in term of technological development.
The two ministers also signed the minutes of the bilateral meeting. The second working committee meeting will be held in Thailand in 2008.
