January 20: Bhutan Telecom has increased the international internet bandwidth through fiber optic cable. This means video and audio files can now be transferred faster.
The increased international internet bandwidth is expected to greatly increase internet speed. With the fiber optic cable connection, videos uploaded in the internet can be watched in real time, which means the internet users do not have to wait for the video to buffer.
The Managing Director of Bhutan Telecom Thinley Dorji said it will also boost the growth of IT industry and other related businesses in the kingdom. He said internet users will be able to upload and download files faster.
There are approximately 25,000 internet users in the country and with the internet connection through fiber optic per head internet speed will be around 4 to 6 kbps.
The Bhutan Telecom has now 45Mbps link to the London internet exchange, which will be expanded to 90 Mbps in the future. |
