August 29: A 23-year-old man from Pachutar under Phuentsholing geog has been mauled by a bear. The incident took place around 3 pm on Wednesday, August 27 when he went to release his goats out of the pen.
He said there were three bears in the pen. They have killed and eaten three of his five goats.
While two of the bears ran away one attacked him. He said he tried to cover his face and it was not until he fell down that the bear left him.
His mother who was in her shop located about five minutes away heard him scream and came with other villagers to rescue him.
The man has been lacerated on the scalp and cuts on his limbs. He received about 30 stitches at the hospital.
Our reporter Tenzin Wangda says the man is reported to be in stable condition.
This is the third case of bear attack to be reported in the past two weeks.
On Tuesday, a 46-year-old man from Nayabasti village under Phuentsholing was brought in critical condition after he was attacked by a bear.
The incident took place at around 2 pm in the afternoon.
Khem Raj had gone out to collect firewood along with a friend when the bear attacked him. The friend who escaped unhurt took him to Chongaykha BHU. Later he was referred to the Phuentsholing General hospital.
He has suffered lacerations on the right side of his face and his eye. He had also sustained a fracture on his skull. He is now undergoing treatment at the National Referral hospital.
In another incident, on the night of August 18, a 34-year-old man also from Naya Basti was admitted to Phuentsholing hospital after he was mauled by a bear.
