BNB and BOB introduces MICR cheque |
November 30: Cheque clearing transactions will be faster, thanks to the setting up of the Bhutan Electronic Clearing House and the introduction of the Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) cheque.
The banking head of BNB says the new system will not only expedite process of intra bank cheque clearing transactions but also speed up the clearing of cheques issued by branches of the same bank.
The Bhutan National Bank and the Bank of Bhutan will discontinue its non MICR cheque beginning next year.
The cheque which is issued to saving and current account holders are being replaced by MICR cheques.
BNB and BOB have started issuing the new machine readable cheques to their customers.
Along with Thimphu, the Bhutan Electronic Clearing House has branch offices in Gelephu, Monggar, and Samdrupjongkhar.
