Anthrax outbreak in Zhemgang


September 7:
An anthrax outbreak has been reported in Kagtong village under Ngangla Geog in Zhemgang.

Eight people have been infected after handling and consuming meat of animals that have died of anthrax.

Twenty nine animals have died of the disease.


According to the programme director of the National Centre for Animal Health, Dr Karma Rinzin, the animals were exposed to spores, the bacteria causing anthrax following incessant rainfall in the second week of July this year. The bacteria live in the soil.
