Additional trade route for Bhutan and Bangladesh

August 15: Bangladesh has approved an additional trade route between Bhutan and Bangladesh. Tamabil port, the new trade route was approved during the secretary level meeting held in the capital on Wednesday, August 13.

At the meeting, Bhutan had proposed for two additional trade routes- the Tamabil Port and the Mongla Port. Bangladeshi officials however accepted only one of the trade routes.

The Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs Dasho Sonam Tshering, said the new trade route will boost the economy in the eastern region.

He said exports from the east, mostly consisting of minerals can now be exported to Bangladesh without having to pass through Burimari, the existing trade route.

Meanwhile the two sides have also agreed to renew the existing Bilateral Trade and Transit agreement for another five years.

They hope to sign the renewed agreement by November this year.
