June 17: A single storied hut above Dr. Tobgyal’s school in Babesa, Thimphu was razed to ground by fire yesterday afternoon.

The fire is believed to have started around 12:30 pm. There were no causalities but the family residing in the hut lost all their belongings.

The house owner said she came to know about the fire only through her children.

At the time of the incident the woman had gone to Dr. Tobgyal’s school to deliver lunch for one of her children. She said she saw the fire starting from the kitchen. She attempted to save some of her belongings but got an electric shock when she came in contact with the CGI roofing.

The police fire fighting team reached the site but could not save the house. The police are investigating the cause of the fire.
